Timelapse in The Port of Cape Town #16

The last section is removed.

Timelapse in the Port of Cape Town #14.
The shot - number 657 of 2309 in a sequence.
This is worth that second beer!

Crane shot
Canon 5DIII slung under a 500 kg beam which is due to lift 65 tons - 18 metres of 5cm thick leg of an oil rig.
The camera is at 85 metres 78 yards and at the limit of the CamRangers wifi which I was using to trigger the camera and once the lift began, the setting of the intervalometer to shoot the timelapse.
This is one of about 30,000 shots taken since Saturday (excluding the GoPro) for a timelapse marketing video I’m shooting in Cape Town.
It was a great chance to invest in some fabulous technology - the CamRanger, a Shukuma dolly ( for timelapse moves) and a Merlin Head for pan/tilts.

It’s bloody working. My camera is almost 100yards/metres up in the sky on a crane and I am able to control it! Timelapse on a huge crane

Lowering the section of leg

The sun comes up, the work continues, the crane is ready to lift the top section

Timelapse in the Port of Cape Town #5

Going up.  My camera is steadily lifted up to 85m / 90yards to photograph the removal of the top section of 1of 6 legs.
Unfortunately, the wind was too high, so the lift was aborted.
Will try again tomorrow.

Old farm house in Tamboeskloof, Cape Town
Lovingly restored by Alex Stewart Architecture.
Plaster casts of the original ceiling mouldings were taken
Replacement handles were made to match the ones stil at the home.
Cupboards made to match the style within the home.

An absolute pleasure to photograph a place that has been crafted so, modern meets old and the combination is beautiful, elegant and functional - a hard mix to make.
